LA meet up

We're having a LibraryThing meet up at the Library Bar in LA tonight! Come join us for a beer around 7 pm.

It's downtown, at 630 West 6th St (directions and a map here).

Wish I could, but I'm about 400 miles too far north! Let me know when you do a show in the SF Bay Area!

Tim,

You need to open one of those in Portland! There are usually some store fronts available across from the Public Library and adjacent to Longfellow Books. HMMMM - I need a good venture capitalist.

Yeah, Portland is chock-full of empty storefronts these days—a sign of bad things, I think, not of good.

The worst thing about the Library Bar was that the books were all crap. Readers Digest on the shelves? What the hell?

Sorry I couldn't make the LA party, Abby, but wanted to congratulate LT on the nice box in the Wall Street Journal this morning. Ain't it grand to be famous?

Hahaha. If you go out of your way to patronize a place called the Library Bar, you probably don't need the Condensed Version of a John Grisham novel. They need one of those "books by the foot" services.

I've been to a place that was worse (don't remember where - I think I wiped it out of my memory). They had various interesting-looking books on the shelves all over, including within reach of my booth - I leaned over to pull one out and discovered that it was only _half_ a book - all the books had been cut in half lengthwise and glued into niches to represent books on shelves! AAAAAGGGGHHHHH!

Wish I could have made it for the meet-up, but I don't drive around downtown LA after dark by myself. But I did want to thank you for your advice -- I went to the show on Saturday as a Librarian of a small independent library (my own). And ended up dragging home more books to catalog into that library. I never did get to any of the talks, alas.

Sorry I missed it. I leave LibraryThing for a few days and look what happens. I love nice excuses to go downtown and it would have been fun to meet the instigators of one of my new favorite websites.
