Which of your authors are on LibraryThing?

The impetus was an unfortunate event. Two LibraryThing Authors went hog-wild "friending" members. Some members were annoyed, and I stepped into create an upper limit of requests and comments per day (it's 70). But it did raise the fact that there was no adequate way for LibraryThing authors to connect with their readers.
LibraryThing Authors? If you don't know, LibraryThing Authors are authors who are members of LibraryThing and have put some or all of their personal books onto the site.
Wouldn't it be great to see what your favorite authors were reading? Well, that's the idea, and, so far, it's been quite a draw. We have 667 authors so far. We hope this makes it even more attractive for all concerned.

This is a very good addition!
Fantastic idea!
:o)
I'm glad I wasn't the only person who was annoyed by the mass "friending." The two "friend" requests came right on top of all the Thingology blog posts about Shelfari. While what the two authors did was nothing compared to the evil that is Shelfari, I'm glad to see LibraryThing step in with a fix before there's even a large-scale problem. I love you, LibraryThing!!
The mass friending explains why a couple authors whose books I've never read wanted to be my friend.
Great new feature came out of it, though. I hate wading through the massive authors list to find the ones whose work I read.
I was sort of wondering about the mass friending too. It was fricken weird.
Do I have to do something special to get the full list of LibraryThing Authors whose works I own to appear on my profile page? I notice that I have more LT Authors in my author cloud than in the list of LT Authors on my profile page.
Thanks. I made a fix that should do it correctly.
Whatever you did, fixed it. Thanks!
great idea! but i kept looking for it on the connections page -- any chance we can get it there?
EowynA, I think you're talking about apples and oranges. The authors in your author cloud are those whose books are listed in your library. The authors that appear under "Member Connections" are those who themselves have LT accounts. Obviously, J.R.R. Tolkien isn't going to have a LT account! Or have I completely misunderstood your question?
stardreamer,
The LT Authors in everyone's author cloud have a little LT Author badge next to them in the author cloud. So, for instance, Tolkien doesn't have a badge, but I do.
I posted this in talk, too, but it got buried. LT authors are only showing up on profiles that already have friends or interesting libraries. If you don't have either, but you do have books by an LT author, the LT author is not listed on the profile page. Also, is this a feature that you can choose whether to display?

I'll go look for that. I just did a test, with a new account and it worked fine for me. Perhaps it's a coincidence with another bug?
Can anything be done about the Chinese comment spam? This is the second time I've seen it in response to an LT post.
Jonathan: You have NO idea. Mostly they go after old posts, and we have two years of them. Fortunately, I have all comments sent to email. Unfortunately, thats ten or twelve I have to delete every day...
Tim
For example, if you look at the first author on the LT authors list, there are several people who own that author's books who don't have any LT authors on their profile page - starting with the 3rd person or so in the "users with books by" list.
Excellent. Thank you. I didn't realize it differed based on whether it was you or not, but it does.
Fixed. Thanks.
I've found that the limitations of disambiguation have caused a problem for me. I've ended up with a link in my box to LT Author Jessamyn West, but she's not the Jessamyn West whose books I own.
