Tag-based recommendations
I've added a simple drop-down menu on members' LibrarySuggester page, allowing you to see recommendations based on the books that fall under just one tag.
It's not the everything—an ideal solution would have includes, excludes, percentage-interests, and so forth.—but it's still pretty cool. Certain topics I'm interested in—as here Alexander the Great—get swamped by more numerous interests.
I'm also excited by the effort to put Thomas Jefferson's library into LibraryThing. See the Thingology Blog.

This is great!
There are some weird things happening, though. When I was looking at people who have the books, non-fiction, and then tried clicking on fiction, it just stuck with non-fiction. And when I tried clicking on a different fiction option, I got: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'INNER JOIN tags ON books_id = tag_bookid LEFT JOIN workalias AS wa1 ON b' at line 6 - fatal error (5.3)
Also, I think you should add this to the main Suggestions page. I would never have thought to click through to the LibrarySuggester page if I hadn't specifically been looking for this, because it seems like everything is already available on the first page.
This is great, and I second zoe's suggestion that you should add this to the main Suggestions page. (Will excludes be coming at some point? I ask because I don't want to add a phantom 'include for recommendations' tag to most of my library rather than just adding an 'exclude' tag to a couple dozen books if it would turn out to be needless work.)
Yeah really great :-)
I can not emphasize how happy this makes me.
This should be a very useful feature, but after testing it with my books tagged "alexander the great" I'm finding that it always makes recommendations based on those books, even when I select another tag or "(all tags)".
Go here http://www.librarything.com/test_cookies.php and clear your cookies. I think the earliest version was mapping them on a folder level. Anyway, this should clear them. It will also log you out so don't forget your password.

That did the trick - thank you very much.
Another request to, please, add this to main suggestions page.
I thought I was crazy. I went to the suggestion page and looked for the drop down box, tried again, tried again. Finally, I put in a search and found it on the results page.
Now that I finally found it, this is such a nice improvement. Great feature!
