Harry Potter book pile contest
You probably already know that the seventh and final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling will be released at 12:01 a.m. on July 21. (I love that so many bookstores have midnight parties).
Of course, we're going to celebrate LibraryThing style, with a book pile contest.
So gather all your wizard and wizardry books (head to Diagon Alley for any supplies you're missing), pile on the creativity, and take a photo.
The rules.
1. Take a photo of your books.
2. Post the photo to Flickr. You'll need a Flickr account to do this (it's easy and free).
3. Tag your photo on Flickr with "LibraryThingHarryPotter"
4. If your photo doesn't show up right away on Flickr's tag page (a problem if you have a new account), then post a link in the comments of this blog post. We'll make sure to find it.
The prizes
First prize—$50 to use on Amazon or AbeBooks.com
Second prize—Free lifetime membership on LibraryThing
The deadline
July 31, 2007 (so you'll have plenty of time to actually read the book too.)
And once your photo is submitted, don't worry, the fun isn't over. There's plenty of Harry Potter games, discussion, and speculation happening in the Groups.
Join the Hogwarts Express group to discuss all things Potter. Or check out the Watching Harry Potter 7 topic to weigh in on the following:
Enjoy! (And remember, if you're sharing your copy, read fast so the second person doesn't have to wait too long...)

1. How long will it take to break 10000 copies on LT?
2. How long will it take to become number 1?
3. How many copies are going to be listed in LT the day BEFORE the book is released?
Enjoy! (And remember, if you're sharing your copy, read fast so the second person doesn't have to wait too long...)

I'm new to this book pile contest thing, so I have a question. Can we enter more than one picture?
Absolutely! Enter as many as you like.
This blog post needs a book cover! (Anonymous)

Hi,
I'm not a new Flickr user, but it's still not showing my correctly tagged photo yet. It's in my album & made public. Any idea how long it takes before it shows up with a search?
Ok, I dug around the Flickr Help pages, and found this:
"This is because all new accounts need to be "approved" before they are released. You don't enter the approval queue until you have at least 5 public photos. You only have 4, so if you upload some more photos, then your account will go into the queue.
Depending on how many new accounts are pending, it may take a few days before your account is approved, and then your photos will be available in public searches."
I've been a member since May 7th. I have 100+ public photos... I'll poke around on there. Any other ideas? Thanks
Bizarre then! Post the link to your photo here, in the meantime, I'd say.
What about the downtime pile contest?
Oh, I announced winner of the downtime book pile contest here
Do they have to be your books? -Katissima
Katissima - nope, you can use anyone's books. Well, try not to steal, but...
Still frustrated ... wrote Flickr days ago & haven't heard anything.
Here's the link to my submission:

My book pile
My photos are not on the Flickr tag page yet, so here is the link to my entries: HP book pile photos.
Does it count as a book pile if it only has one book?
Yes, I think.
I'm new to this whole LibraryThing, but when I heard about this photo contest I just had to join and show off a pic of my favorite little wizard within an hour of the release of Book 7. Here's the URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/10575588@N03/916142358/
Enjoy!
Ha! Love that one. Caught the Golden Snitch I see...
Ah, well, I only joined Flickr for this contest, so not enough pictures to be public:

This is really fun!
I'm soooooo tempted to censor that, just for kicks. Making paranoid's paranoia come true...
I joined Flickr last week just for this contest, but didn't add my photos until just now. While they show up for me on my profile, I'm worried because they aren't when I click the link from LT to see all the photos entered in the contest so far. I'm hoping that I'm just freaking out too soon or am being paranoid. :) Should I have only used lower-case letters? I wrote it like this: LibraryThingHarryPotter
Brand new to flickr so here's the url just in case:

(Figured I'd cover all my user names in one fell swoop!)

Hope that link works!
Since others are listing links to their photos for the contest, I'm going to go ahead and do that just in case. Here are my entries:

Word to the wise: if you wait to the last minute like me, don't get in a hurry and typo the tag! Good thing I caught it in time... here they are. :)

Just to be sure this gets in, because it doesn't seem to show up by the tag and I wasn't certain I was posting the right place.
My entry.
Is there an estimate for when we'll know the results?
Hey. I think Abby was planning on blogging them late today or tomorrow. (We try to space blog posts out by six hours or so.)
