Swap info in your library

Following the recent integration between LibraryThing and swap sites, I've added an optional "swap" column to your library. It shows the combined available/wanted numbers for the three swap sites that share their information with LibraryThing.

By default, the column is hidden. The checkbox to turn it on is also available from the "edit" control in your catalog, and on all swap pages.

Or just go ahead and click here to turn it on.

Improvements: In the future it might make sense to allow you to show totals from only the sites you belong to. And we plan to integrate swapping deeply into the upcoming "collection" feature, so you can see what you're swapped, what's on it's way, etc.

PS: Clicking on the swap column toggles it between sorting by top available and top wanted.

What a cool feature!!!

Even if we don't use the swap option...which I'm hoping Bookins will eventually agree to...it shows how much in demand each book is. Now *that* is interesting!

I totally agree. Indeed, I plan to highlight that data elsewhere. Certain books are much owned, but people aren't that eager to hang onto them. They're done. I think that's interesting.

How do you turn the swap column off???

Klick on one of the swap icons - on the rigth hand of the next page you can uncheck "Show book-swap column in your library".

Or click on "(edit)" on top of your catalog:
Display styles A B C D E (edit),
uncheck "Show book-swap column".

(Here you might have to check it first before you can uncheck it - mine was unchecked, although I have the column displayed).

How can I show a want without having it counted in my total? In order to show a book wanted (in swap for one I have) the wanted book must be entered. If entered it counts towards the total. Is there a way to enter wanted books that are not counted?

Not at present. However, Tim & Co. are working on it.

My swap column isn't showing up. For some reason, when I click "Show book-swap column" in the edit display page, it doesn't stay. Bug?

Follow-up to swap column not showing up: It works in IE, not Firefox.

It might be a delay issue, or a different version of the catalog.

Do this
http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?version=1

Let me know.

Tim, the "version=1" link worked. Thanks!

Because of librarything, I joined a few of these swapping sites. This feature has been wonderful; since browsing here has led to a new 'need' for books I'd never heard of before, I'm constantly using the Swap to add books to my lists and find ones I need. Thanks again. (My post man, however, doesn't thank you. He's mentioned my sudden new surge of packages in and out and wants to know if I'll be adding to his workers comp when he throws his back out from my books.)
