Shilling for Portland's Longfellow Books
LibraryThing hearts Longfellow Books in Portland, Maine. Tim's wife Lisa reads there. Axel, Stewie and Seamus gets dog treats. They even compliment Abby on her book choices. So, in our continuing quest to get more Portland, ME members--to invite for burgers--we've given Longfellow a stack of free gift accounts. If you're local, stop by and pick one up.

- Bookstore Tourism. A great idea. We missed Larry's talk at Book Expo America, but then he became a LibraryThing author!

Cool. I'm a local, and I was surprised to learn about LibraryThing being a Portland enterprise. (I had heard about the site from a friend in the UK.) I'll be sure to pick up a free membership!
Must I be a Portland resident to help your continuing quest (and get invited for burgers, I suppose)? Or does Biddeford count? And it seems I'll have to stop by Longfellow Books sometime soon...
Well, I'm not local, but I've told everyone I know (repeatedly) about LT since the first time I logged in. And I'm a librarian, so it's decent press. Any chance I could get in on the deal? :)
All kidding aside, I would have purchased a lifetime membership and at least two addition gift/lifetime memberships this weekend, but paypal required far too much info that they don't need to process the request. Would you think about offering another option for payment?
Huge thanks ... your brilliant (literally) ... I'm deeply in love with ThisThing.
Re: payment. We could offer out own credit-card facility, but I think people would trust Paypal. I was using Amazon's honor system for a while until they told me I had exceeded my monthly quota--apparently they thought I was engaged in credit card fraud, in $10 increments.
You can, however, mail a check:

28 Atlantic Street
Portland, ME

Let us know if you do and we'll upgrade you to "paid/pending," so you won't have to stop adding books.
I too would love for there to be another option for paying. Maybe with regular credit cards? I can use that on amazon, and it would be a great way to have more people with payed accounts.
As long as it's through paypal only, I'm affraid I can't use it, and I'm almost at 200...
paid, not payed, obviously
Will be near Portland for vacation next week, I'll be sure to stop by Longfellow's - looks like a great shop!
OH! You're married to Lisa Carey! Though I don't think Lisa and I ever met, I used to work at Brookline Booksmith and Lisa definitely haunted the place (in a good way). I eventually went on to open and manage the Wellesley Booksmith before moving over to Random House.
best wishes to you, Lisa and LT!

I have a paypal account and use it quite often. I've never had a problem with it.
In Portland, Cunningham Books is also a fantastic store. The proprietor is entirely non-internet, too, so sometimes you'll find some unexpected bargains in areas she's iffy on. (Just like used bookstores in the old days..)
My wife and I, I am ashamed to say, dropped by her store on the way to the airport, and left with almost 50 books. I do not recommend carrying that many books through Portland airport.
Syrin: You know you can use a regular credit card on PayPal. You don't need a PayPal account at all.
mgkbooks: Great to hear. Small world. Do you know Sascha and her husband Larry, formerly at Random?
Tim: nope, those names are not familiar... were they in the NY office?
Will you be flogging LT at NEBA?
I just bought an LT shirt and will wear it at the next RH sales conference!
I'm another Portland local - I just signed up last week. Great service!
