Take the LibraryThing Tour!
So you might not make it to Italy this summer - that's ok, you can take a tour of LibraryThing instead! We knew a simple intro to LibraryThing was something we were severely lacking, and inspired by the cool last.fm tour (where apparently, "what you get when you sign up" includes... a pony!) we made our own.
We have no ponies. But we're proud of it anyway.

There's lots more to see than back when I (and so many others) joined. - If I still needed an intro, it's barely possible it would speed my deciding I was in love! (Pretty fast as it was.) :) In any case, I imagine it would make everything feel more comprehensible.
(Though I see it says one can keep a library 'complete private'...)
Thanks for the correction.
We were at first wary on a tour, but I think it helps. I'll monitor if the arrival-to-signup "conversion" improves.
wow! wow! and wow! more books!
gr8 site!!! u r such a fantastic web designer!!!
pity you have no concept about how librarians catalogued ... :(
Which part do you disagree with, the LC Call Numbers, the Deweys the MARC records, the LC Subject Headings, or are you just an anti-tag troll?
I think you're dealing with a traffic seeker. His first blogger post was put up today, and he probably found you through the blogs of note list. He hit at least one other there.
Lol, outventing! Your ignorance is hilarious.
Tim, I like the tour.
One thing that strikes me is all the different uses we have for LibraryThing. It is not just to show off, as some non-users have assumed. I wish we could get that across to visitors.
Frankly, not everyone will like what I have in my library and my ego is perfectly fine with that, but if someone is interested in one of the books I own, I want to help them find it. LibraryThing does that nicely.
I see it less like bragging about what we have and more like sharing information with other book lovers who might be interested in a particular book or genre.
Hopefully the tour can clear up that misconception and remind people how useful LT can be for listing and tracking books. Can we list some of those reasons for them?
EXAMPLE:
Book club
Gift giving
Keeping a 'to be read' list
Keeping a 'books wanted' list
Keeping track of loaned books
insurance inventory
quick retrieval
list of shared resources (ex: teachers)
Just a thought.
The tour is great, both in terms of the information offered and how it is offered.
I wonder if anyone has ever called last.fm on their pony offer. Hmm . . .
I'm guessing that lastfm would email a picture of a pony to anyone who challenged that sign-up ad. I've been meaning to sign up for that site -- I'll check it out and report back.
Your search engine is awesome !
I like the LibraryThing tour and am interested in putting it on my blog with wordpress, but my blog-theme doesn't accept widgets. Do you have this avail. as a wordpress plug-in? Just thought I'd ask.
