Morning downtime
UPDATE: 2:30pm. It's back up again, albeit a little slow as it builds up a "cache." No data was lost.
The main server went down last night around 5am. The situation is NOT serious. The slave server never went down, so there should be zero data loss. I also have backups of all the critical data from a few hours before the crash.
I'm waiting to do the restore because turning the slave into the master is something I've never done. LibraryThing's database admin is going to do it, and he's in California, dreaming untroubled dreams. I'll wake him up in a half-hour or so.

Thank you for the update. Its sincerely appreciated!
good luck with the switchover
"But just as lordship showed that its essential nature is the reverse of what it wants to be, so too servitude in its consummation will really turn into the opposite of what it immediately is...." (Hegel, Phenomenology of Spirit, par. 193).
Hope this helps ;-)
Will the AbeBooks partnership mean you can get a more robust system? I only ask as it seems (more often than not) that the system goes down at night in the US - which is when I'm principally using it - in the daytime in New Zealand :)
Did that moose collide with the server?????
gosh, someone just said to me suppose after you finish all your posting of your books, something drops/dies and you lose it all.I said oh that won't happen everything is backed up. righttttttttttttttt?

We miss y'all!
I'm hyperventilating a little bit. I didn't realize before just how dependent I've become on librarything to help me keep track of my exam reading. I need to mark these Lady Gregory plays as read so I can stop worrying about them!
Please be okay, little librarything!
More likely to be the lobsters looking for food after lights out....Tim, take your time to get it sorted, it's not a mission critical system for anyone, is it?
Everything's working with no data loss. We're just building up a "cache" right now. We've discovered that if we just let the dogs out immediately, the server can't cope. It needs a little time to "warm up."
I'm getting fatal error (31.2) if I attempt to edit the comment field.
keep getting 'fatal error' when i try to add a book or a tag... hmm.
