The Monde fait Le LibraryThing / Scheduled downtime

Francis Pisani's blog at Le Monde picked up LibraryThing, prompting a small deluge of French visitors. I'm not quite sure how Le Monde's blogs work, but it's apparently an official one. Pisani also writes columns in El Pais and Reforma.
"Je sais, Amazon à l'art de me suggérer des titres susceptibles de m'intéresser sur la base de ce que j'ai déjà acheté des titres auxquels je me suis intéressé, mais maintenant c'est moi qui explore. C'est pas incompatible. C'est différent. C'est mieux."
I wish LibraryThing had more French sources. This is, however, mostly a function of there being few open Z39.50 connections to French libraries. If you understood that know of any I've missed, I'd love to hear from you.

Lastly, if you're French and love LibraryThing, how about helping out with a French-language version of the site? Shoot me an email and let's talk.

Scheduled downtime. LibraryThing will go down for 10-20 minutes at 6pm Eastern (midnight in France?) for an extra backup.

fnac.fr looks like a retailer to me. Surely the biggest French library is the Bibliothèque Nationale de France which doesn't have Z39.50 access.

For a library with Z39.50 access how about the Catalolgue Collectif de France which searches approx 160 French libraries http://www.ccfr.bnf.fr/rnbcd_visu/z3950.htm

Does anyone know what the URL of the CCF is? It's maddening! Am I out of my mind?

I mean the Z39.50 URL, of course.

I read Francis Pisani's article and I registered today.
Just a friendly remark :
Le Monde is an independant newspaper, quite independant and the staff would be outraged to be qualified as "official".
Congratulations for your site, it's great.

No, I didn't mean that Le Monde is an official newspaper! No, I meant that it's an official blog of the newspapers—it's not just some blog anyone can join, but a blog tied to the newspaper.

Congratulations on the mention in M. Pisani's blog — I do believe that blogs hosted by Le Monde are just that — except that certain "journalistes" get special attention.

I look forward to the time that Library Thing has access to the BNF data. Library Thing deserves full international appreciation.

Best,

Hi Tim, (and hello french LibraryThing users !)

I have started a web site in french similar to yours to some extend. It's called "L'Agora des Livres" and it's at www.agoradeslivres.com

I started it on late September, 3 months before I discovered LibraryThing but I admit that your site has inspired some of the functionalities of mine's.

"L'Agora des livres" is based on the opensource, forum software phpBB. One of the thing I am proud of is the way lecture notes are handled as "forum messages" so that a discussion about a book can happen between users.

I would like to develop further the "social network" part (it's so exciting !) but I would need 48 hours in a day ! I am jealous of what you did in that matter. It's really great ! And I don't mention the figure difference between our both sites. I would like to have a tenth of your users !

you can join me at andras[@]agoradeslivres.com if you like

cheers,
andras
