New server, new libraries
New server. After months of work and a few days of back and forth, LibraryThing is now officially on the "new new" server (the merely "new" server proving to be fast but also buggy). With luck this will be the last server change until LibraryThing is acquired by Walmart. (Oh, and LibraryThing data is now backed-up daily to two separate servers, one in California and one in New York.)

- Union Catalogue of Finnish University Libraries (LINDA) — LibraryThing's first Finnish library
- Columbia (CLIO). Columbia, Barnard and the Union Theological Seminary — LibraryThing's first seminary and a heft university library
- Washington Research Library Consortium (D.C.) — Eight DC-area libraries, including Georgetown, American and Gallaudet (website)

Thanks for the Finnish library, Tim. Good you managed to solve the problems. Too bad I managed to enter my books into LT already :)
Well, it wasn't that big a task, and once the word spreads there will be plenty of Finns joining. We like our books (Finland is, I think, ranked #1 in library use world-wide)..

Yes. I hope to solve that soon. My WIN PC emerges from the "shop" tomorrow. I should have just bought a new machine. Between repairing it and all the money I spent a Kinkos, I could have.

Hm, I just realised my comment could be read in two different ways. What I meant was that entering my books into LT wasn't such a big task. Couldn't possibly know how hard it was to add LINDA :)
I tested it with a few books. It seems to work apart from one thing: the ISBN field does not work. I can't search with it nor does LT fill in the ISBN field after finding the book by other means.
It does still manage to combine the book somehow to the correct work, which is neat.
It also seems to find the publisher, which is missing from my books currently. So maybe I have to go through the list once more to get that info populated..
I tested this further. I searched for a book from the Linda database directly and copied that ISBN to LT's search field -> no dice.
The book in question happened to be Stanislaw Lem's Katar in Finnish (titled 'Nuha'), ISBN 951-26-2038-3.
What would be really neat with these translated books would be to have the original language & original title shown somewhere. This is the MARC record I pulled out from LINDA:

I like the way publisher, place of publication, page count and size is pulled out from the db, what would be *really* neat would be to have them in their own fields instead of having it plumped into one field (which isn't even shown in Book Information, only the Edit page)...
But I might be alone with this :)
Makis, you're not alone with wishing for physical description fields to be separated from imprint... for one thing it seems to stuff up the cells when you export to CSV and open in Excel.
Is there a way to combine books that do not have an author (anthologies, for instance)?

Yes, I've decided that all books are really just one book. Why must books divide us? From now on, if you have 200 books, you'll share 200 books with every other member of LibraryThing. And I'm buying everyone a coke.
I ditto Kelsey - I just added a bunch of my classics in translation, and I'm having a deuce of a time getting things to combine right. For example, often the exact same translation of a work will have entries under no author, the original author, and/or the translator; is there any way to combine them *without* combining the listed authors?
The worst example facing me right now is The Complete Greek Tragedies, which is a set of volumes by different authors. Amazon seems to have them all listed with no author, and the way the titles work, LT automatically combines them into one work. However, there are *also* many copies of the exact same editions listed under the individual authors. I can't figure out how to combine, and since the agglomerate work has no author, there's no quick way to separate, either...

But.. I have my LT feeding into my 360. It shows my name in the link but the feed that's actually coming in is from someone else entirely. (I don't even share any books with this person! lol)
I assume this is a LT issue and not a 360?

No, not so far. Sometimes (on editing) it also asks if I want to stop a script that is malfunctioning. Whether I answer "yes" or "no", nothing seems to change.

No rush, obviously, but I was wondering if there is any info out there about how to export one's librarything catalogue to endnote. The must be a way to make a simple script that exports fields endnote understands, or a way that it can log into someone's acoount via Z39.50 protocol?
I had a problem this morning changing my profile from public to private. When Wal-Mart buys out LT will it be responsible and accountable?
