30,000 books

We've hit 30,000 books! That's 5,000/day for four days in a row.

New features slowed today as made technical changes to ensure LibraryThing can handle many times that number. (But you'll notice profiles now have watchlists and a user search function.) But don't worry, a major upgrade (hint: more libraries) is just around the corner.

Keep sending me suggestions. If I don't respond right away, it's probably because I'm acting on it.

I've just tried using the watchlist feature - when you find user "x", takes you to their profile page, where under Watchlist it says "you are watching user x". If you then go back to your own profile page it says "your watchlist is empty". I don't know if I'm missing something here...

(This is a tremendous service, by the way, and it's going to get HUGE!)

Just an idea, although it's probably already been suggested, but I would love to be able to import particular books from my allconsuming list...
:o)

I am so, so sorry if someone has suggested it or if it already exists, but...

As I add in books, I think it would be handy to have a flag books in my library that I would recommend to others?

Now that I've typed that, it has dawned on me how strange it is that I have books in my library that I wouldn't recommend to others. But I do! Tons!

Thanks for building this!!!

Some new bugs:

When I click on an author's name in a user's "cloud," no books are displayed. The heading at the top of the list says "displaying 1 of 0." If I change the display at that point, ALL the user's books are displayed.

The "you share these books" list gives titles multiple times. So for one user, I share three titles, but the list shows five because two of them are there twice.

When I click on a title there, I'd really be much more interested in seeing the OTHER USER'S RECORD, not my own.

I don’t know if you’ve used Gmail’s tag system, but it is _very_ useful/user friendly. As your system is now, I have to remember what tags I’ve used in the past and type them in exactly as before. Since I am a poor speller, this involves more steps than it might...

Your site is a wonderful resource, and a great tool. Thanks for doing it; you’ll be getting my US$10 as soon as I have it to spare...

Thanks for the update! Two little bugs I've noticed:

1. I have three books in a series, and even though the titles are different, two are listed as "duplicate copies." (The Chalet School books by Brent-Dyer.)

2. Apostrophes in general seem problematic. One particular problem is that half my Madeleine L'Engle books somehow deal with the apostrophe differently from the other half, so she's showing up as two separate authors, although I can't SEE the difference.

Thanks!

Can’t handle unicode. Try entering "Mémoires" manually as a book title. Edit it. The é turns into two junk characters. It gets worse if you edit more than once.

The software should at least be generating a DOCTYPE declaration and a meta tag like this:
meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8".

The same goes for RSS when you get to that.

Here’s a thought:
Perhaps you could add a button which would display a book’s proper bibliography in proper MLA format?

Hey, very nice website! I have started adding my books.

It would be really handy to be able to give multiple books the same tag in one operation.

I tried to email you this suggestion but I was bounced back as hotmail seems to refuse to relay to your mail server!

The numbered page buttons to browse one's library don't work in Firefox (1.5 beta1). When you delete a book, you get dropped back to the first page - it would be handy to be taken back to the same page you were on.
Great job overall!

Someone may have already suggested this, but it would be really cool if there was a way to export the call number data in such a way that one could print spine labels.
