Export added; what now?

I just added a CSV export feature, so you can throw the data into Excel, Access, Filemaker, etc. So, what now?

Some ideas:
  • Import filters for popular book-cataloging software. I'd start with Delicious Library, an elegant OS X application.
  • User-defined fields. I can add user-defined fields. For my sake, I prefer to use tags to keep track of where a book is, or who gave it to me. But others may prefer flexible user-defined fields.
  • Use of Amazon. How are people finding the LC data? It works for me, but I see some problems. The LC doesn't always have copies of paperback reprints. So, you have to choose between the original edition or entering the paperback manually. I was thinking I could make it "fail" to Amazon—check Amazon if the LC doesn't work. Or Amazon could always be an option.
What do you think?

As someone with a number of paperback reprints, I think failing back to amazon if the LOC lookup doesn't work would be nice.

And, some time in the future, looking at some European libraries would be great. The British Library would be the obvious one. I know this must be possible, because there is a Linux cataloguing app that (Alexandria) that uses the BL.

And once you move into world domination stage, there are people with multilingual libraries to cater for ...

I just further realised that of course Amazon, if they will play, have pretty comprehensive databases for German and French at least. It's a start, even if it only covers books in print.

My GF has well over 2K books catalogued in a MS Works db. She is exstatic about this app, but doesn't want to type in all those records of course. So if you could add a CSV import feature, that would be awesome (with a defined field order so that people can massage their data with a spreadsheet)

User defined fields would be _very_ nice, yes.
